About Us: (Over 60 Years Experience)
Captain Jim Chambers
The owner, Jim Chambers, took his first horse ride at the age of 3 from the barn to the watering trough. He instantly fell in love with horses. At the age of 7, he owned a one-eyed mare and sold rides for fifteen cents. He later operated a pony ride. For the last dozen or so years, he has opened and operated several stables. Douglas Lake View Stables is a dream come true. It has gorgeous mountain and lake shore rides with 40 mile views including overviews of the famous Parton family farms and ranches. Douglas Lake View Stables features trails of one to four hours duration and it’s normal to view wildlife including recently released eagles from the Dollywood Foundation, as well as deer and turkey too numerous to count.
OUR MANAGEMENT Mrs. Bea Shoemaker , Manager and Guide Bea fell in love with horse riding as a toddler watching Roy Roger's Trigger on TV. Her love of horses led her to Douglas Stables. Jim says she is his right hand gal. Her biggest joy is in the care of the horses, especially her favorite guide horse, Sox.
Cooling off in the pond Bea & Sox Suzi Wright, Guide, Webmaster and All-Around Hand Suzi worked for several years at Ringling Brothers Circus and worked with Gunther Gebel-Williams, helping train and care for a variety of exotic animals, as well as horses. Her love of animals and the outdoors leads her to choose working here instead of managing a restaurant.
